Eshowe High School Visits Caraway for a Culinary Experience

Aug 24, 2026 | Caraway School, School Visits

The Eshowe High School visit to Caraway International Hospitality Institute in Umhlanga gave learners the opportunity to explore culinary careers and gain practical experience in a professional training kitchen.

The visit began with an introduction to Caraway and the exciting opportunities available within the hospitality and culinary industries. Our team shared what makes Caraway unique, spoke about the many career paths available to aspiring chefs, bakers, entrepreneurs, and hospitality professionals, and encouraged learners to think beyond the classroom as they plan for their futures.

Exploring Careers in Hospitality

One of the highlights of the morning was an inspirational talk focused on following your passion, embracing new opportunities, and believing that success is built through dedication, creativity, and hard work. It was wonderful to see the learners so engaged, asking questions, and showing genuine excitement about what the future could hold.

Hands-On Learning in a Professional Kitchen

After the presentation, it was time to step into the kitchen.

Under the guidance of our chefs, the learners swapped their school uniforms for aprons and got to experience life in a professional training kitchen by preparing a delicious Butter Chicken Curry from scratch. For many, it was their first time cooking in a commercial kitchen, and they embraced the challenge with enthusiasm.

The kitchen was filled with teamwork, laughter, new skills, and plenty of delicious aromas. Watching the learners gain confidence as they cooked was a reminder of what hospitality education is all about—learning by doing in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Practical Chef Training in Action

The feedback at the end of the day was incredibly rewarding. Both the learners and their teacher expressed how much they had enjoyed the experience, praising the welcoming atmosphere, practical activities, and the opportunity to see what studying at Caraway is really like.

Experiences like these are at the heart of what we do. We believe that the best way to discover a passion for hospitality is to experience it firsthand, and we are proud to create opportunities for young people to explore their potential in a fun, engaging, and inspiring environment.
