A Warm Welcome and a Taste of Theory
On 24 and 26 March 2025, Caraway International had the pleasure of hosting two vibrant groups of matric girls from Danville Girls High School. The day began with a warm welcome and light refreshments, setting the tone for an inspiring introduction to the world of culinary arts.
Once settled, the girls were guided through a theory session focused on flavour development and recipe balance. These are essential principles in any kitchen, and our facilitators explained how taste, aroma, texture, and seasoning come together to create a well-rounded dish. The learners showed great interest, engaging actively in the session and sharing their own ideas along the way.

From Classroom to Kitchen
Following the theory lesson, it was time to roll up their sleeves. Each group entered the kitchen with energy and excitement, ready to turn knowledge into action. Under the guidance of Caraway’s chefs, they formed small teams and began preparing butter chicken curry and homemade naan from scratch.
They learned:
- How to work with fresh spices to build rich, aromatic flavours
- The technique of kneading, resting, and cooking naan
- The importance of timing and teamwork in a working kitchen
One of the most memorable moments was when the chefs revealed a surprise element—green coriander oil. This vibrant garnish not only added colour and freshness but introduced the learners to a modern method of elevating traditional dishes.

Exploring Career Pathways
After enjoying their delicious creations, the Danville girls were introduced to the broader journey of becoming a professional chef. Our team shared insights into the world of culinary education, explaining the qualifications, dedication, and creative passion that the industry demands.
They learned about:
- The study options available at Caraway International
- Career opportunities within restaurants, hotels, and beyond
- What to expect from life in a professional kitchen
Many students asked thoughtful questions, and several expressed a keen interest in pursuing culinary training after school.

Capturing the Day
Throughout both visits, the atmosphere was buzzing with creativity, teamwork, and joy. We captured moments of focused cooking, laughter between teammates, and proud final plating. From flour-dusted aprons to colourful coriander-drizzled dishes, every part of the day reflected learning and growth.

A Lasting Impression
The Danville girls left with more than just satisfied appetites – they departed with a taste of the culinary world and a better understanding of the skills, effort, and creativity that go into preparing a meal from scratch.
At Caraway, we believe experiences like these plant seeds of passion and possibility. We hope to welcome many more young learners in the future, as we continue to share the joy of cooking and the rewards of a career in food.
